(Tentative) Itinerary for Starting Point Photography in Lisbon

Some of you have written me asking for more details about the Lisbon trip. These plans are tentative but most likely will happen with only minor variations. While not on the schedule, we’ll also squeeze in a sunrise and sunset shoot at some point during the week.

Hope you can join us!

Saturday, March 23rd, 2019, 6pm – Meet at hotel for appetizers and drinks (feel free to plan to arrive the day before!)

Sunday, March 24th, 8am – meet for breakfast

Sunday, March 24th, 9am – Hop Off/Hop Off bus tour for sightseeing and reconnaissance of the city

Sunday, March 24th, 6pm – drinks and chat about locations

Monday, March 25th, 8am – meet for breakfast, 1st photo session. Today’s topic will be “Composition, composition, composition!”

Monday, March 25th, 10am – meet at the Jerónimos Monastery to practice the composition tips and techniques we learned earlier. We’ll then walk to the Belem Tower for more shots. But, at some point, we’ve got to go to the Pasteis de Belém, Lisbon’s most reknowned pastry shop, for coffee and some Pastel de Nata, the amazing Portuguese egg tart pastry I’ve heard so much about!

Monday, March 25th, 1pm – FREE TIME. You can hang out with Melissa and I as we explore and shoot or you are free to wander on your own. Melissa and I will definitely be hitting The National Azulejo Museum at some point!

Monday, March 25th, 6pm – drinks at the hotel or a bar nearby

Tuesday, March 26th, 8am – meet for breakfast, 2nd photo session. Today’s topic will be “How to Shoot Landcapes!”

Tuesday, March 26th, 10am – Take the famous Tram 28 and meet at the São Jorge Castle to take in the expansive views of the city and practice your landscape shooting.

Tuesday, March 26th, 1pm – FREE TIME. Melissa and I might hit The Elevador de Santa Justa (Santa Justa Lift) or wait for sunset to go up in it.

Tuesday, March 26th, 6pm – drinks at the hotel or a bar nearby

Wednesday, March 27th, FREE DAY – You’ve got the day to yourself! If there’s enough interest, we can get up early and take the train to the beautiful town of Sintra, 45 minutes away. We’ll spend the day shooting and exploring. Melissa and I will *definitely* be doing this!

Another option on this free day would be to get up *really* early, rent a car, go to Sintra and then on to Cabo da Roca which is the westernmost point of mainland Portugal and, therefore, continental Europe and Asia for a sunset shoot. Melissa and I will *definitely* be doing this!

Thursday, March 28th, 8am – meet for breakfast, 3rd photo session. Today’s topic will be “How to Shoot Portraits!”

Thursday, March 28th, 9am – Meet in the main shopping district where we’ll practice our portrait photography techniques on each other!

Thursday, March 28th, 12pm – FREE TIME. How will you spend your afternoon? Relaxing in the sun? Shopping? Resting? Museums?

Friday, March 29th, 8am – meet for breakfast, 4th photo session. Today you’ll learn about “street photography” and “how to see in Black and White!”

Friday, March 29th, 10am – Meet in the Alfama district, full of windy streets, locals and lots of character!

Friday, March 29th, 1pm – FREE TIME. What sights of Lisbon haven’t you seen yet? Now’s the time. Melissa and I will visit The oldest bookstore in the world: The Bertrand Bookstore. It opened its doors in 1732 and is a must visit for me!

Friday, March 29th, 6pm – Farewell Dinner and Photo Critique! For those of you leaving on Saturday, this will be your opportunity to say goodbye to the group. For those of you who would like to, you can send me your three best shots of your trip and, as a group, we’ll do a (very gentle) photo critique of your shots and I’ll show you some editing tips and tricks to really make your images pop.

Saturday, March 29th – TRAVEL DAY or one extra day of sightseeing. Maybe get up early and take the train or rent a car and go to Porto to the north (a three-hour trip)? Head to the beach? Go to the Oceanarium? Have one last romantic dinner and listen to some Fado music?

This is a preliminary itinerary, just to give you a sense of what I have planned. If you have other ideas or suggestions of places to visit or shoot, please let me know!
